Scratch Art
A trip down memory lane
For this project, and inline with my continuing fascination with form and colour, I was inspired by a technique taught to children. This technique is called scratch art. Thick black poster paint is applied over a sheet of paper coloured in wax crayon, then a picture is created by scratching through the black paint. I brought the technique into the digital realm by creating a layer of randomly applied digital ink colour and then making another black digital ink layer. After this I drew on the black layer with the digital eraser to create simple line drawings. It he hide the coloured layer to create minimalistic line drawings. I created further variations by painting purple over the scratched image.
These pictures were created to be turned into cards and postcards.
